Hello there. I’ve put some neon photos from my trip to The Netherlands up over on Flickr. Have a look!
It was mostly a friend-visit and sight-seeing trip, rather than a neon-centric trip, so I ended up not being out too much after dark and didn’t always have my camera with me when I was. I did, however, snap a few pix in Amsterdam (where I spent most of my time) and some in Rotterdam (where we went for a quick overnight trip).
Amsterdam has a good number of neon signs, but none seemed particularly old, and most of them were pretty simple — appealing to college kids looking for a place to smoke pot, largely. There were also quite a few for steak restaurants, and for the automat-like chain of Febo restaurants. Not a lot of show-stoppers, but enough neon glow for a pleasantly urban feel.
The sign above is from Rotterdam and means “glance.” I’m afraid I didn’t do my usual documenting of names & places — getting a few snaps was all I was up for. Feel free to add comments to the Flickr photos, though, if you know what’s what, and maybe I’ll go back later and try to triangulate them a little better.
One day I do hope to make a neon visit to one of the world capitals of neon, but for this summer a relaxing trip to Amsterdam (a lovely, laid-back city!) to visit friends was just what I wanted.
Did I miss any great neon that you know about? If so let me know — I’ll surely be back again some time.
I’m still working at getting my back stronger — hopefully I’ll be up and about more as the month goes on.

About Project Neon

Follow a girl as she follows the glow in search of New York's best neon signs. Every week I'll visit another one of New York City's neon-clad establishments and post a photo & story, and tell you more about why I'm traipsing around this metropolis in the cold & dark to visit pharmacies, shoe repair stores, and bars with good neon signs to buy cough syrup, get my shoes repaired or have a drink.
